Fifth Birthday Party

IVKMH 5th Birthday / Christmas 'do' Friday 16th December Yes, unbelievably December marks 5 years of us playing the same records and to celebrate we have performances from... Temposhark Bringing grubby electronic noises Jim Muir Slideshow Playing acousticky prettiness I'm sure they'll be more than pleased to tell you about themselves at myspace.com/temposhark and myspace.com/jimmuirslideshow respectively. As it's our festive birthday thingie, we will be bearing gifts for the nicest and most glamorous people that turn up. (Somehow this seems like the wrong way round - no-one ever brings us presents, but still.) There will also be the best cake / mincepie type treats that Quality Save can supply. Not forgetting the Indigo residents upstairs (possibly playing the Girls Aloud Christmas album in full.) And the Kiss My Hac boys & girls downstairs being every kind of awesome. Ooh, and your chance to pick up the latest issue of the Indigozine, Manchester's premier listings guide...

Nursing Home

Yes, this is the one everyone’s been waiting for… For one night only you may think you’ve stumbled into Sankeys or one of those clubs that tries to make itself sound sexy by having a decadent trashy name and a playlist full of European electro bands you’ve never heard of. Yes, we have a proper pop star from foreign parts coming to play records for us. The Knife have been tearing up dancefloors for a couple of years now and we’re sure you’ll have thrown some shapes to "Heartbeats" before now. We’re not expecting gorilla costumes this time round, but Olof is flying into the country specially to DJ for us, so expect him to have made the effort. And of course we’d like the cowd to do the same…
But don’t worry we haven’t forgotten you guitar loving kids, for you we have a band travelling up from London – The New Shapes. These are doing it their way and getting acclaim from XFM (that’s radio down south readers) NME and a million internet people along the way.
But don’t think we’ve forgotten that there’s plenty of Manchester talent out there, oh no… Local band Nursing Home are an Indigo band in the classic sense, they’ve invited comparisons to Pavement, Teenage Fanclub and Elliot Smith. Now while we may not disco down to bands like that too often these days, it doesn’t they don’t still bring a smile to our faces. So, suffice to say, we have high hopes for this lot.

Downstairs, Kiss My Haç will be inventing new genres, probably including: BounceyCastleBass, BleepBleepRiddimz and GlitchPop. Plus some records you may have actually heard before played by DJs National Forest, Mildred Hubble, David Crayon and One BPM.

Ding Ding Round 4

Indigo vs Kiss My Haç
Star & Garter, Fairfield Street, Mcr
Friday 14th October 2005
9pm – 2:30am
£5 / £4

Featuring live performances from:

Noblesse Oblige
&
We Start Fires

Refreshed from a month off (don’t suppose anyone missed us..?) IVKMH return having found some new records to play and hunted down some ridiculously good bands…
We’re normally sceptical about anything described as "art-rock" but there has to be an exception that proves the rule and Noblesse Oblige are it. Imagine if the Cold War was still raging and people were still making electroclash (remember that) records… now you’re nowhere near imagining what they sound like, but that’s the best we can do. Oh and NME don’t like them, so that’s reason enough to think they’re great!
Now imagine if people still made records with guitars on them… hang on, they do and just occasionally they’re great. We’re still quite partial to an old fashioned punky racket, so it’s just as well there are bands like We Start Fires around. We’ve nabbed them fresh from supporting old friends of Indigo Nine Black Alps on their UK tour (and we have it on good authority that those gentlemen are big fans.) So if you’re due a dose of eyeliner, stilettoes and noise, get down early to catch this lot.
Rounding off the evening upstairs, the resident Indigo DJs will be joined by Stewart TVOD of legendary electropop night fame who is leaving his self-imposed exile down South for one night only to bring the sleazy, synthy, mutant disco sounds of his new night Contact up from the capital to Manchester.
Downstairs, Kiss My Haç will be inventing new genres, probably including: BounceyCastleBass, GunShotRiddimz and MashCoreBreakz. Plus some records you may have actually heard before played by DJs National Forest, Mildred Hubble, David Crayon and One BPM.
